I am running 3ds max 2016 SP3 with V-Ray 3.60.02 max keep crashing to desktop, the dmp / log shows this error UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Rendering region - globillummap.cpp, line 2364: GlobalIllumMap::buildLightMap() {5}
Its a fairly simple kitchen scene rendered using dome light and one vray sphere light with default BF / LC settings at 4048 x 4048 on a 64gb system any ideas

3dsmax was crashing due to a conflict between the Windows 10 Creator Update and the Autodesk License Service.
The solution for me was to update the Autodesk License Service to 5.1.5
